M151 Spotting Scope System

Mission

Designed for use by a sniper team, the M151 Spotting Scope System allows recognition and identification of targets at long distances.

Description

The M151 Sniper Spotting Scope allows recognition and identification of targets at long distances. A light and compact scope with powerful and bright optics, the M151 has 12-40x magnification with a 60mm objective lens diameter. The scope has a mil dot (round dot) reticle for both range estimation and tactical collaboration with the shooter. The scope is weatherproof and fog-proof. A laser filter unit protects the observer from magnified eye hazards on the battlefield. It also has an anti-reflection device to virtually eliminate detection from returned glint off the scope’s objective lens.

The Army is undertaking a multiphase process to upgrade the mirrors and improve the reticle of all M151 Sniper Spotting Scopes. In addition, the Night Vision Adapter (NVA) has replaced the MonoLoc to improve the interface of the AN/PVS-14 Monocular Night Vision Device with the M151.

The Tactical Tripod Kit allows spotters to employ the sight from the prone to sitting positions. Constructed of high-strength lightweight aluminum alloys, the tactical tripod deploys quietly and provides rock-solid stability necessary for sniper reconnaissance, target interdiction, observation, and surveillance missions.
